2 Years! Practicing What We Preach... At Last!

Published on 10 May 2026 at 15:27

Transcend Trauma turns 2 this week! We know, it feels like no time since we were working out whether we could do this at all, and yet here we are! We have been so privileged to share this journey with people who have come along and shared their story with us in lots of different ways and on different platforms, and we are really grateful for each and every one of you.

In our first year we worked hard at increasing our presence and making sure we were seen and heard anywhere that would have us! We did podcasts in the UK and in the USA, we were published in a book and ran 2 retreats and a workshop. We did a lot!

We also learned a lot, that we needed to practice what we preached, that we can only be helpful to others if we first help ourselves - that good old saying about you can't pour from an empty cup! So we learned to slow down a little, to give ourselves permission to take breaks when we needed.

This has been needed recently, with C starting a new, and much more demanding job. We have thought about being more purposeful in what we put our energy into, which is a good strategy for life really isn't it?

How often do we drain ourselves of energy, yet fail to see any real or tangible results or outcomes? Sometimes it is worth taking time to pause our efforts and reflect on what we are doing and why we are doing it. Have you ever found yourself stuck in a pattern of behaviour that you no longer understand, but you continue because you have done it for so long it is just your normal now? That can so easily happen, when we just carry on doing what we have always done without stopping to think whether it serves us anymore.

Beyond that, sometimes we just need to take a break! It is OK to rest sometimes, you don't need to ask for permission. We live in a world where somehow activity and busyness has become linked with success and achievement. That is nonsense, sometimes the biggest achievement of a day is to take time out, to rest and recover.

So... with that in  mind what will year 3 for Transcend Trauma hold? We will be purposeful in what we do, carrying on with the services and support that we know are impacting people, and thinking creatively about how we can balance work and wellbeing.

We know that some of our blogs are revisited more than others, and the one consistently visited is "Mind the Gap" the blog about managing time between therapy sessions. Is there something in that about taking time, about feeling in control and managing the time between appointments?

Drop us a message or E Mail if there is a subject you would like to hear about in the coming year!
