Welcome to Our Blog

Summer is definitely on the way out and Autumn is knocking on the door! We don’t know about where you are in the country/world but down here in the Southwest of England, the sun is still fighting through some days, meaning some days we can still go out without coats and with sunglasses – while others, it is absolutely winter coats and brollies at the ready!

This one has taken a little while to write, because the feelings are deep and complicated. The death of Dolly Parton hit me hard, like it did for people across the world. So, I took a little time to sit with that feeling, and to explore where that came from, and if I'm being honest, whether I actually felt it was justified to feel that way at all.

We don't know about you, but we found the news that Ann Widdecombe had been murdered on the 8th July in her own home deeply shocking. There was so many things that this caused us to think about, and we wanted to explore some of those here.

Well, what a weekend Transcend Trauma just had! We had the absolute privilege of spending 3 nights at the stunning Powderham Castle in Devon, listening to live music from Teddy Swims, Alanis Morrisette and Lewis Calpadi, along with some fantastic support acts. It was really special to be surrounded by people of all ages enjoying the music and singing along.

Transcend Trauma turns 2 this week! We know, it feels like no time since we were working out whether we could do this at all, and yet here we are! We have been so privileged to share this journey with people who have come along and shared their story with us in lots of different ways and on different platforms, and we are really grateful for each and every one of you.

We have been thinking about the “just one thing” philosophy, which was made famous by Michael Mosley first as a podcast, then book and currently being aired by the BBC as a mini series. The premise being: find just one thing that you can add or change in your daily routine that will have a big impact on your mental and physical health. The theory is that making small adjustments can lead to big changes, rather than setting yourself unachievable goals.

The world can feel a bit overwhelming sometimes. There are BIG issues going on, from local and national politics, to hate and knife crime, to global emergencies and war. Do you feel like you need to know about all of the above, or do you take the ostrich approach and bury your head in the sand? There is no right or wrong, and we do not plan to go in to any of these major issues here, more to have a think about how we cope with this sense of overwhelm.

Change can be hard, but also refreshing. So often in life I have only made change when there has been little or no alternative. When I have got to the point where something has to give. In a way that was what happened this time, I needed to earn more, and feel stretched more, so I bit the bullet as it were and leapt into the unknown.

Valentines? “Galentines” (where you celebrate the female friendships in your life)? Or do you just bury your head and hope it passes?

I talk about death and grief a lot, have you noticed?! Oh yeah, and I don’t apologise for that fact anymore! So NEH!

So how is January going for you? Yep, complicated sometimes this life thing isn’t it. So we thought we would tackle the idea of our inner thought world this week – nothing major then!
